N.l.
The Governor has been advised that the
suggestion of obtaining alternative supplies
by the distillation of sea water is not a
practicable one. This expedient is
understood to have been tried on a very small
scale during the 1939-45 war by the Royal
(I have been
Navy in Gibraltar and/found to be very
expensive. He have no information in
the Colonial office about this attempt,
but no doubt, if necessary, further
detaile and confirmation of its
impracticability on a scale signifieant
in relation to Hong Kong's requirements
could be obtained through your own
channels.
